Synopsis: A drama based on the experiences of Kathryn Bolkovac, a Nebraska cop who served as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia and outed the U.N. for covering up a sex scandal.

Review: Kathryn Bolkovac is a police officer who is in need of money to clear her mortgage. She is divorced and needs a transfer of her job so she can move closer to her daughter. Her boss tells her about a job overseas called the Peacekeepers where she can earn one hundred thousand dollars tax free for six months of work. She goes overseas and does a good job, there she is offered a higher position where she does high level investigation. While doing her job she uncovers the most horrific underground crime ring of all, human trafficking. Kathryn Bolkovac has found out that the very people who she has been working with are in on the crime ring. So many people high up are all in this human trafficking underground together. All of these malicious people are covering for each other and in this crime together. Even the people who are suppose to be protecting the victims. These are very real horrors that do exist in real life. Its something that law enforcement has been fighting decades.

Wow, Rachel Weisz does a perfect American accent in this film. When I was first looking at the cover of this movie, I was wondering if she could pull it off. She did! She plays this part perfectly. The emotion is very real in her acting. I would even say that his is one of the best displays of her talents. All of the actors are superb. Benedict Cumberbatch does not have a big role in this movie but the part he plays is solid. David Hewlett is basically Rodney McKay from the Stargate Atlantis series. He is just as silly on the TV series Dark Matter ( SyFy ). Vanessa Redgrave pretty much plays a similar role we are used to seeing. The only difererence is that she is not as much as a smart so as her role as Dr. Erica Noughton in the TV series Nip/Tuck ( FX ).

Monica Bellucci as Laura Leviani.

The film focuses on the concept of truth and this shocks the main character to her core when she learns what is taking place. The truth has shown Kathryn Bolkovac that people who she thought was suppose to protect the innocent, instead they are apart of the worst crime imaginable. For the main character, the question is can she handle the truth. The fact that so many higher ups wanted to hide the nefarious crime that was taking place, some of which where participating in. Unfortunately, this is a hard truth. That underground crime rings, plenty of times pose as an organization for good are actually a front for horrific activities of the most inhuman kind.

The Whistleblower is an Interesting film.

Interesting

Film

The movie is very interesting but very disturbing at the same time. Not a family movie since it deals with a very real subject manner. Of course we will never really know how much of the film is a creation of Hollywood and what actually transpired in real life. Perhaps a documentary could sort some of this out. Lets take into account that these events are well over a few days, probably a few weeks, or even months while the movie is cut down into a runtime of about two hours. The cinematography is OK. The music is unfortunately forgettable. The lighting is well done. there is a scene where a young lady is scared to speak up and steps backward into a shadow as a representation of how she emotionally feels in the shadows. You will feel kind of disturbed after watching this one. Some of the scene are kind of extreme. The movie is passable.
